
Tadhi Alawi
Co-founder and Creative Director
Tadhi Alawi is a dancer, movement researcher and choreographer from Tanzania. After honing his skills and gaining recognition in the local dance scene, Tadhi co-founded Nantea Dance Company with a vision to create thought-provoking and visually stunning performances. Tadhi is Creative director of Nantea Dance Company, Co-managing director of the Contemporary Dance Night, Nje Ndani the outreach Dance Project and founding member of Umoja Artists in Residency program in Tanzania. In 2024, Tadhi was chosen to be the curator of the Dance Platform Project, the first project that invites artists from Sub-Saharan region to the Haba na Haba International Dance Festival in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute Johannesburg.
In 2022 Tadhi Alawi was one of the 100 professional artists to be awarded a grant organised by artlink and Sudkulturefond. Besides, Tadhi has received grants and awards from different Institutes, organisations and festival such as Dare 2 Dance In Public Film Festival as Best interface in public, FEEL FREE Grant by Embassy of Switzerland and Nafasi Art Space, Travel grants from Goethe-Institute in Munich and Mobility grant and Dance Hustle grants from British Council in Tanzania.
Tadhi has also gained recognition as a filmmaker with his dance films being featured on different dance film festivals and platforms such as the BBC News in 2020. Tadhi and Nantea Dance Company have produced many dance performances such as A MOMENT – WAKATI, DAR ES SALAAM - A house of peace, HUMAN - Life in a rapidly changing world and YIN-YANG, which were present at different platforms and festivals in Tanzania, Kenya, New York, Netherland, Israel, Germany, Latvia, Mozambique, UK and beyond.
