Nantea Dance Company is a Tanzanian-based contemporary performance company founded in 2015 by Tadhi Alawi and Samwel Japhet. The company produces multifaceted touring performances, community-based projects, and artistic platforms that support East African dancers, enable cross-cultural collaboration, play an active role in shaping Tanzania’s contemporary dance scene, and inspire young people to become ambassadors of social change and creative development.
The company creates high-quality dance works and builds a culture where art holds its own value. Nantea Dance Company tours its choreographic works internationally, with performances in the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria, Latvia, the United States, Mozambique, Israel, Rwanda, Belgium, Uganda, Sweden, Kenya, and Tanzania.
In addition to performances, Nantea Dance Company actively engages in cross-cultural collaboration and capacity-building initiatives. It organizes Kiota Cha Dansi (A Nest of Dance), an inclusive dance platform launched in partnership with Goethe-Institut Tanzania in 2025 to showcase Tanzanian and African dance works. Nantea also leads Nje Ndani, a capacity-building program supporting emerging Tanzanian and East African dance artists through workshops, seminars, and open dialogues on artistic expression and creative entrepreneurship.
